Practicing Self Care through the Arts with Urban Gateways

This workshop was organized by Urban Gateways for the Latino Youth Initiative program at Highland Park High School. This project resonated deeply with my artistic philosophy in that its aim was to teach young people that emotional healing can be accessible amidst whatever challenge they may face. For young people walking tightropes across financial insecurity, relentless peer pressure, systemic poverty, pervasive gun violence, and targeted discrimination, emotional resilience isn't merely beneficial—it is survival. I greatly enjoyed documenting teaching artist Sonja Henderson’s self care workshop for highschool youth.
